PrZen/33472445
Local resident and realtor Jay Menger had the amazing opportunity to speak with the City of West Bend's Mayor, Chris Jenkins. Jay and Mayor Jenkins discuss the quality of life in the great city of West Bend. Mayor Jenkins discusses what he has done since he has taken office to improve the city.
WEST BEND, Wis. - PrZen -- In this brief interview Mayor Jenkins discusses what the City of West Bend was like prior to becoming mayor, how he has improved the quality of life since he was elected in 2019, how his administration plans to attract more economic development and residents to the city, and why people should move to the City of West Bend.
Prior to taking office as mayor, Mayor Jenkins had the opportunity of serving on the City Council for three terms, was President of the city's Library Board for three years and served one term as a County Board Supervisor. During this time Mayor Jenkins served under previous-Mayor Kraig Sadownikow's administration. Mayor Jenkins stated the previous administration did a great job of righting the city's fiscal ship which made the city's departments more streamlined. Prior to Sadownikow's administration the city had a large debt and funding problem. Mayor Jenkins stated, "I was lucky to have inherited a very strong and solid organization that was on a the right financial footing."
When Mayor Jenkins was elected, his administration went through a strategic planning process which created a new mission and vision statement to lead the city and four key strategic priorities. These strategic priorities are public safety, economic development, infrastructure, and quality of life. All of these are in order of importance and all equate to a better quality of life for the residents of West Bend.
West Bend has placed public safety as a top priority by providing both the fire and police department with appropriate funding and resources. Mayor Jenkins stated that, "public safety is of utmost importance". His administration has worked with both the police and fire department to improve the services that both departments provide via external department studies, increased equipment and resources, and positive collective bargaining negotiations.
In regard to economic development, you can simply drive around the city and see the vast economic boom that our great city has seen in recent years. Most of the big box stores are filled and all the store fronts downtown are utilized. Since Mayor Jenkins has taken office, he has brought over $150 million dollars in economic development to the city.
Infrastructure is the third key to the administration's strategic process. In the past two years the city has paid over $10 million dollars to fix the city's roads and underground utilities. The city has gone through a transportation study with the county to help create an inventory system for our roads. This helps predict, plan, and prioritize the repairs and construction of West Bend's infrastructure. Main thoroughfares like 7th and 18th Aves have been completed, and downtown Main Street is in the works.
The fourth and final key point to the city's strategic plan is the quality of life for the residents. There are ample opportunities to enjoy the City of West Bend's multiple events that are held downtown such as weekly farmer's market, Music on Main, and holiday events. There has been an increase in events at Regner Park as well.
The last question asked to Mayor Jenkins was why should people move to the City of West Bend. Mayor Jenkins enthusiastically stated, "Man, why shouldn't you move to the City of West Bend?!" The city is the seat of the county for a reason. Simply put, the City of West Bend has everything people need to have a great quality of life.
Mayor Jenkins and Jay had a great time discussing the progress that has been made for the residents of West Bend under his leadership.
