Preservation Achievement Grand Jury Award For Cherry St. Pier Development Presented To W.J. Castle And Associates

W.J. Castle P.E. and Associates was honored along with the project owner and team at the 2019 Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia Achievement Awards Ceremony for their participation in the Cherry St. Pier development project.
MOUNT LAUREL, N.J. - PrZen -- W.J. Castle P.E. and Associates received 2019 Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia Achievement Awards Ceremony for their participation in the Cherry St. Pier development project. This award recognized Castle's achievement and dedication to historic preservation. The project owner Delaware River Waterfront Corporation compiled an amazing team which also included; Groundswell Design Group; Holstein White Engineers; ISA – Interface Studio Architects and Scungio Borst.

Municipal Pier 9, the 93-year old warehouse owned by the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation features over 55,000 square feet of open space that has been vacant for decades. It has been converted into Cherry Street Pier and features four zones of activity: The Hub, a food and beverage venue at the entrance to the pier; The Garage, a collaborative working space featuring shared offices and studios built out of re-purposed shipping containers; The Platform, an open programmable space for pop-up retail markets, art installations and public events; and The Garden, an open-air park and café with views of the Delaware River. This unique, post-industrial site is conveniently located at Columbus Boulevard next to Race Street Pier, making it easily accessible to visitors who are taking public transportation, walking, biking or traveling by car.
The mission of the Preservation Alliance is to actively promote the appreciation, protection, and appropriate use and development of the Philadelphia region's historic buildings, communities and landscapes. Each year the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia presents the Preservation Achievement Awards to a select group of individuals, organizations, and businesses for projects from throughout the region which exemplifies outstanding achievement in the field of historic preservation.
Grand Jury Awards celebrate the highest level of achievement in historic preservation for:
· Preserving/protecting historic resources in the built environment
· Historic building restoration, rehabilitation, or adaptive re-use
· Sympathetic new construction or additions associated with historic properties
· Education or advocacy efforts related to historic preservation
· Documentation of significant historic resources in the built environment
Winners were selected by a jury of preservation professionals and were presented at the Alliance's award ceremony at VIE on June 5th. This popular event provides industry professionals and Preservation Alliance supporters the unique opportunity to share in celebrating the efforts involved in maintaining the historic fabric of our region.
For 35+ years, W.J. Castle P.E. and Associates has been known for its marine engineering expertise. Our team includes Structural and Civil Engineers who offer complete structural designs for building, replacing, and/or repairing; bridges, piers, docks, bulkheads, underwater cables and more. We employ Engineer-Divers who are proficient at underwater diagnostics and reporting, with the ability to develop repair designs as needed.
