About Ed Oates & CHOC'D

Lead guitarist Ed Oates is a native of Northern California. He graduated from San Jose State University in 1968. Upon graduation, he attended the high-tech industry at Singer, Memorex, and Ampex—prior to co-founding Oracle Corporation with Larry Ellison and Bob Miner, in 1977.

Oates decided to retire from Oracle to pursue his passion in music and the music industry with Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp.

During his college years, he formed a rock band, The Beggar's Opera, with Warren Hallila, Rex Chappell, Tracy Chappell, and the late John Lee.

In the 1990's, The Beggar's Opera disbanded; the current line of CHOC'D includes: Chappell, Hallila, Oates, Chappell, and Doug, with the addition of Doug Nichols on keyboards.
